The thief was obviously not comfortable running in his heavy trousers given that all the phones he stole were inside his pockets. Still he ran until he got to the fence through which he had passed earlier. This fence separates the girl’s hostel from the pedestrian route. The thief stopped and panted for some time. Then he placed his right leg in the hole in the fence so he could hop over. This he followed with his left foot, then right again, relying upon the hole to reach the top of the fence. He jumped to sail over the fence, but he tripped, landing hard on the ground. The thief tried to stand to give it a second try but it was too late as the baba blues had arrived.

His eyes went red and bulged out in fear. Terror was written all over his face.

One of the baba blues grabbed him by the waist and the thief started begging. He tried to sound like an innocent person, his voice shaking. But the other baba blue landed two hot slaps across his cheeks and commanded him to keep quiet. Those slaps did not deter the thief. He continued to beg for his life, with all passion, even as the baba blues grabbed him by the waist and marched him to the student affairs dividends of the school.

The girl who raised the alarm stood there perplexed as though she was watching an action movie. She was very happy the same way all the girls were happy that the culprit had been caught. They hoped that all the thieves waiting to enter the girl’s hostel would learn from this example.

When the room 18 occupants finished jubilating, they realized that Maryam has not woken to celebrate with them. Maryam was a level 300 student of the accounting department. They were surprised that, even after all the shouts in the hostel, Maryam had not awoken. This was unusual because Maryam was the type of girl that would rouse from the slightest noise. They quickly put the bulb on and they found Maryam in a pool of her own blood. Her bed sheet was drenched with red. They called her name and shook her vigorously, repeating her name countless times, but there was no response. Aisha, who happened to be Maryam’s bunk mate, started crying and calling her name as well. When they still did not get any response, the girls concluded that Maryam must have been raped by the thief and now she lay lifeless.

Then came another shout in the hostel.
