Spread the love

Trawling

Beyond the coop
sleek half-beached alligators
bask in a humid swamp where
light dredges water like a rake

Not patience—a wide idleness
a languor that allows all
entanglements to fall, slack
fish-net to the boat floor

a palm closing over them, a calm
headiness, shoulder-high
corn in the morning breeze.
