Isle of Desire

As you reached down plates from a cupboard,

And your blouse lifted, I chanced to witness

A strip of flesh, that dawn’s albescent blaze.

Desire—its pain—became my daily bread.

It was spring, on that isle, when you arrived,

Retired, withdrawn, no longer wanting men.

But it was spring, and our wine-fired voices

Burnt up words, and Desire surged like wild seas.

You saw me looking.  A bitter glitter

Occupied my eyes, tearful with Desire.

Starlight splintered as I dreamt my fond flesh

Meshing with thine til sonorous closure.

Rebellious splendor!  Naked, pale goddess,

You enthrone Desire, set my king standing….

  • Salim Gold, your poetry is beautiful and fluid. Every word set me on the isle! I really enjoyed all the poems. I write poetry too. I know beautiful poetry when I see one.
