there is a bitter weal
\n                well beyond tears
\n         lodged like blood clots      
\n                                                       in the heart<\/p>\n

            a weal
\n      hardened
\n                within the well<\/p>\n

                 of eyes
\n         itching to cry
\n          but wet and dumb<\/p>\n

                 as a pebble       
\n                     in a throat 
\n                            that swallows the guts<\/p>\n

till the wracked body
\n    and voice
\n             crack<\/p>\n

when a son sees
\n          the father fall<\/p>\n

           drop<\/p>\n

like stone in a well
\n        sink
\nin a heap of mortal flesh<\/p>\n

the old lion
\nunable to hear the cry
\n       of the cub<\/p>\n

slumps down
\ninto his brave-white
\n         fluffy mane<\/p>\n

unable to paw   away
\n            the irritating fly
\nthat is death<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

there is a bitter weal
\n       well beyond tears
\nor a tremulous whimper<\/p>\n

silently
\n      pressed
\nagainst the pressed lips<\/p>\n

as dumbbells cry
\nand father falls
\n       like stone<\/p>\n

to the bottom
\nof the dry
\n             dark well<\/p>\n
