He and his creative writing students presented the result of their intensive creative writing summer course in poetry, prose and drama through a public reading. He started off by giving a talk on the linguistic turn in literary theory as it relates to creative writing and grammar. This event was featured as part of the INPUTS lecture series, “Key Developments in Literary Histor(ies) and Literary Criticism in English.”

INPUTS organizes many programs and activities, one of which is the newly established “Writer-in-Residence” program, which brought Dr. Ede to us. We were very happy to host him from March through May 2016 as our first Writer-in-Residence. During his stay at Bremen University, he collaborated with me (his host), Professor Dr. Kerstin Knopf, delivered an academic paper and gave a poetry reading at the international Third Bremen Conference on Language and Literature in Colonial and Postcolonial Contexts or “Postcolonial Knowledges”, organized by myself and professor Dr. Eeva Sippola. See: http://www.bcll.uni-bremen.de. As a poet, Dr. Ede began a new work titled “Teardrops on the Weser”, in the magnificent ambience of the ‘Teerhof’, an island on the River Weser in Bremen’s beautiful old city center. Since returning to Canada he has been working towards completing the manuscript of that new poetry collection. It is worth mentioning that close to the Teerhof is Bremen city hall with its treasured wines in the ‘Ratskeller.’ This breathtaking area is, by the way, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Dr. Ede enriched the Bremen curriculum with a five week-creative writing class that brought out wonderfully enthusiastic students. They and he presented their writing at the above-mentioned Guest Lecture Series, organized by Dr. Jana Nittel. We were very happy to host the poet in Bremen and are thankful for the opportunity to have some of his students’ works published in this journal; that is, writing by Stefanie Jahn, Alexander Starostin, Natalya Polyakova and Paula Maciejewski. Thank you very much!

Prof. Dr. Kerstin Knopf
Postcolonial Literary and Cultural Studies
Universität Bremen
FB 10 Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaften
English-Speaking Cultures
Bibliothekstr. 1, GW 2, B 3120
28359 Bremen, Germany
Tel: 0421 218 68330
Email: kknopf@uni-bremen.de

Brampton, Toronto’s Inaugural Festival of Literary Diversity, FOLD © Herman Custodio/the FOLD University of Bremen, Germany.
