Confessional
same way every day life begins
on long solemn road, walking
chill on gone hearts descends
baptising the absence of cheer
slowly dawn unveils her tongue
spirits in grim procession depart
bearers of night’s last darkness
and pleasure, breathing as dew
proclaims sun’s white ascension
pilgrims juggling time as beads
holding in last-toned shadows
the promise of light that comes
darkly the days we travel begin
soon, wattled cocks play ikolo
with wailing life always begins
in the dark soul sun finds a way
The Night
night, majestic, enters his dark palace
dancing to sultry symphony of crickets
wind on saxophone plays a regal tune
leaves, wearing green bandanas, gyrate
flighty fireflies, filled with fever, flame
in chamber of lights and silk curtains
queen moon smiles, swollen with milk
harem of giggling stars surrounds her
on grey skin, groomed by time’s lotion
fragrances and whisperings of flowers
among pines a political party of wolves
bays at busty moon, rogue desire in loin
sky chats as maidens at riverside, clouds
filled with water, and by the gate owl on
sentry hoots, wielding claws as bayonets
proud and poised, the night dances on
absolute sovereign, ruler of my shadows
possessor of what is seen and not seen
towards the charmed chamber he goes
to lay down, lost in dawn’s lighted arms
