Although not a writer like Carl Van Vechten, he is still to Ottawa what the former was to the Harlem Renaissance in terms of visual arts. His lenses are indispensable to the archiving of Ottawa’s unfolding scribal history.

Amid Rodos’ dark shambles of mountains
By that Trojan ocean, where first we met,
Dishing wine in every vintage tavern.
I savoured that paralysis of drink—
Friendly poison—watching white waves banner

Today Dr. Weiss brings Celia to where it all started: the church she had defaced a week earlier. Unlike that turbulent day, her thoughts are in sequence like rosary beads… or so he presumes. As she stands in the garden a few feet away from the massive double doors, she tells the doctor, “I remember a dark room.”

“You mean the cell,” says the doctor.

“I signed a paper...” Celia pauses, “Or maybe not.”
