{"id":259,"date":"2011-05-19T10:56:33","date_gmt":"2011-05-19T10:56:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mtls.ca\/issue9\/?page_id=259"},"modified":"2019-04-02T13:26:32","modified_gmt":"2019-04-02T13:26:32","slug":"brandon-wint","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.mtls.ca\/issue12\/spoken-word\/brandon-wint","title":{"rendered":"Brandon Wint"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>Poetry in Motion<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My favourite poems are the ones that tell stories\u00e2\u20ac\u201dand everybody has a story worthy of being told.<\/p>\n<p>So do I.<\/p>\n<p>It begins with the question <em>do you believe in destiny?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Because everything about my manner of being alive shows me that I was born<\/p>\n<p>For the purpose of writing certain stories, and re-writing others.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe this moment is the actualization of a life-long poem<\/p>\n<p>Written by the universe in the space between the sun and the clouds<\/p>\n<p>For which my earthly name is the undersigned<\/p>\n<p>For there are signs<\/p>\n<p>written in every moment of my life<\/p>\n<p>that have brought me to this place in time.<\/p>\n<p>I am a poet<\/p>\n<p>And do they not so often say of life and destiny<\/p>\n<p>that it is written?<\/p>\n<p>So maybe we who write the stories of our lives on paper<\/p>\n<p>and configure the future through their telling<\/p>\n<p>are with every line, walking the thin line<\/p>\n<p>Between humanity and purely expressed divinity.<\/p>\n<p>But I know I am a poet not because of the aptness of any word<\/p>\n<p>That has ever leapt from my tongue<\/p>\n<p>But because if there is a story in everybody<\/p>\n<p>a story in everybody<\/p>\n<p>a story<\/p>\n<p>in every<\/p>\n<p>body<\/p>\n<p>And true poetry can be found in motion<\/p>\n<p>Then you need only listen<\/p>\n<p>To my body language.<\/p>\n<p>I was a poet long before I could ever pronounce the words that would define my life.<\/p>\n<p>Words like <em>different<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Words like <em>disability<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Words like <em>cerebral palsy<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So listen<\/p>\n<p>The only poem the universe has ever wished for me to write or understand<\/p>\n<p>Is one that looks and sounds like\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IiQ3MehS-G0\" width=\"450\" height=\"254\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Poetry in Motion &nbsp; My favourite poems are the ones that tell stories\u00e2\u20ac\u201dand everybody has a story worthy of being told.
